Another \u00b5FieldDay<\/a> in the books…what a beautiful day for some portable ham radio. About 30 people came by, with 9 HF stations set up. As always, some cool antennas ideas, from N6QDI’s surprisingly effective magmount on his car to NS6X’s complicated but gorgeous Buddihex. KD6IEZ was working out some end-fed issues with a few antennas and it looks like he got that sorted out as well (BTW, if you’re having trouble with your gear, having a crowd to help figure out what’s going on is a perfect reason to come to \u00b5FD.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KD6FVX and KA6FXE are becoming regulars…we’re going to start demanding that they bring their malamute Kitt every time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tom Essenpreis KB9ENS made the long trip from Gardena to see what \u00b5FD was all about-great having you, and I hope I can make the same trip the other way soon. He’s been considering trying to get a similar event going in his neck of the woods. That’s the entire idea behind \u00b5Field Day-anyone can start one anywhere. Being a club-agnostic event, you can invite clubs to join in without them having to take on the burden of “producing” an event. Tom and I “met” on Mastodon along with a huge number of hams and others involved with weather and other emergencies…if you don’t know what that is, talk to me. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Look for another post soon about May \u00b5FD…Ventura County Amateur Radio Club is co-hosting this one with us at their awesome home site at the Dudley House in Ventura, and doing it concurrent with their first VE session in quite a long time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
